We typically require the original birth certificate or a certified copy issued by the General Register Office (GRO) or local register office.
Some authorities require the full (long) version of the certificate, which includes details of both parents. A short certificate may not be accepted -- check with the receiving authority.
If the receiving authority also requires an apostille, this should generally be obtained on the original document before or alongside the translation. Our parent service 1Apostille.org.uk can arrange this.

For sworn translation only, a clear scan or good-quality photo of your birth certificate emailed to us is all we need -- you do not need to post the original. If an apostille is also being arranged, the original will need to be posted for that process and we will advise you accordingly when you order.
